MSSC - The National Support Centre
Lambeth, UK

This project was an exceptional collaboration of services amongst valuable players in the industry.
The project was delivered by work.place.create, who used their expertise to secure a high quality, but value-driven, workplace solution that would provide the Marine Society & Sea Cadets (MSSC) with an effective and flexible working environment for the foreseeable future.
The interior scheme was designed by Abigail Thomas and the creative team at The Table Creative. Approached with a loose and trusting brief to design an environment that offered a salute to its rich nautical heritage without been cliché, Abigail delved into the history of this organisation to gain a sense of it’s brand, core values and mission with a hope to honour these within the design of the meeting rooms, staff breakout spaces, reception area and multi-functional events/kitchen space known as “The Galley”. Central to the scheme was a two-storey timeline celebrating MSSC’s incredible history within the core stairwell and a resolved scheme for wayfinding throughout the building.
Collaborate were approached to support with the furnishings that would bring the vision to reality, with furniture that offered the capability of introducing brand colours, further encompassing the importance of the aspiration and pride the staff have in this charity.
Because of this requirement, a number of products from Elite’s portfolio were selected due to their ability to match the colour of fabrics, metalworks and timber finishes to the design brief.
Bench and table frames were specified in our blue powdercoat finish to reinforce the introduction of sea colours and complement the organisation’s logo.
Breakout seating was upholstered using Camira’s Era range. This fabric features a two tone herringbone weave, available in sophisticated muted tones that harmonised with the design. Lounge seating was upholstered in Camira’s Oceanic, a fabric born of the SEAQUAL® initiative designed to combat marine plastic pollution. It is created entirely from post-consumer recycled plastic collected from our seas, an obvious fit for MSSC.
The Princess Royal, because of her naval honours, was invited to the official opening of MSSC’s office, a prominent moment for the charity and The Table Creative, who were also invited to attend.
